I was in New York City recently and there was a big pride party at the piers the first night I was there. I found out about it from my friend who lives there and was actually planning to go and meet him there, but I got stuck in traffic and didn't make it til an hour before it closed. Turned out it was a 100 dollar ticket and I wasn't gonna pay that for an hour. Looked like a blast though, I would have liked to go to it. Definitely going to go to one when I get the chance again.

Yep! That sounds like the New York PA and I encountered this year. Never been anywhere where so much revolves around so much money.

Norwich Pride next week and while there may be paying events nothing will cost the equivalent of $100. I am pretty sure that the most important parts of a Pride celebration for me (the parade and rally) will be free ... except I'm working and will have to miss it this year.

You'll be a year older next time most of them come round.

I've never been to a pride event. Partly because I don't really know what to expect, and also I wouldn't go to one in the state that I live in. I'd consider going to one in another state or country. But even so, I'd prefer to go with a friend. Which leads to the fact that I don't really have any gay friends. I'm sure that sounds odd, but I live in a small town and don't really know any gay people here (where I live). Maybe next year, I'll look into attending one.

I think the gayspeak 'meetup' idea sounds good. I'd possibly be interested in doing something like that in the future. Greg

That sounds like Catch 22, to me. You may have to break this cycle to make something happen ... if you want it to, that is

It sounds like we might need to organise several, depending on which part of the world you live in. One would be easy enough to organise in the United Kingdom or Europe. I definitely think another one should be done in the USA Canada, Mexico... and why not something down under in Australia or New Zealand? I'm not disrespecting any other nation or continent, mind you, but I'm thinking of the general crowd that gathers here mainly. An international affair would definitely be a plus, as we could get to know Frank and Joshiboi and Kevin etc... from all parts of the world, but is that feasible??? Maybe we need to organise a Gayspeak cruise with a cruising ship company??? They are good, so I'm told.

Hello Greg, I've never been to a gay pride either although I'm sure there have been several near where I live. Europe's bigger cities are seething with gay prides now. How long that will last, I don't know, but maybe we should remember that they are important, precisely, for all the people who, like you, have nobody to speak to and relate to in their small part of the world. If you can get to one of the bigger cities to experience your first gay pride, I would suggest going with a friend. Maybe someone you can agree to go with from GaySpeak, who also lives in your neck of the woods? Take Care...

Hmm, speaking of Europe I'm hoping to go to Milan, Italy around the end of September or early October this year. I don't know what kind of gay scene there is there, but I'll do some searching. Are there any members here from Italy? Greg
