1000 years of annoying the french
#1
WAS THE BATTLE OF HASTINGS A FRENCH VICTORY?

Non! William the conqueror was a Norman and hated the french.

WERE THE BRITS REALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEATH OF JOAN OF ARC?

Non! The French sentenced her to death for wearing trousers.

WAS THE GUILLOTINE A FRENCH INVENTION?

Non! It was invented in yorkshire.

(Tounge in cheek!)

Discuss.... :p

To give the simplest of examples: if you are lucky enough to be invited to an anglo-french function at the British Ambassador’s residence in paris, go in to the first anteroom and what do you see? A gigantic portrait of the Duke of Wellington, the man who effectively ended the career of france’s greatest general, Napoleon Bonoparte. Essentially, a two-century-old defeat is brandished in the face of every french visitor to Britain’s diplomatic headquarters . . . in france’s own capital city.

At one company I worked for, we used to book our French guys into the local hotel called... The Waterloo. They always said they didn't mind, but I think they did.

I've been to Paris, Texas. Does that count?

I have never known anyone French, except for an ex-friends Aunt. She seemed pretty nice, and very distant at the same time.

I have never heard anything good about the French, except for fashion, perfumes, and art.

I can't hate on the French too much, they did after all help us throw off the yoke of our imperial oppressors. Since then though...... can't think of much they've done that I really particularly liked.

They tried to recruit American citizens as Privateers during their revolution, not cool.
Couldn't repel German invasion during two worlds wars.
Most of the French people I've met kind of have a snobby attitude, also not cool.

Good wine though.
