The Great Gatsby
#1
I've had this book since university and everytime I read it,it's even more beautiful. It's the 1920's New York where glamour, wealth and romance are king.I equally love & hate the Buchanans.I keep imaging Robert Redford as Gatsby,WOOF!Possibly the finest American novel I've ever read.

I had to read it a few years back for an English course. Personally, it isn't my cup of tea. I'm not saying it isn't a good book, I just personally don't care for it. One of my favorite books is To Kill a Mockingbird. Atticus Finch is amazingly iconic figure for not only Americans, but for everyone.

Oh,I've read it before. The theme of race is fine & all but I couldn't identify with the context i.e the South. Here in SA,we have a book that is similar to it called "Cry,The Beloved Country".It was an Oprah Book Club selection and it accurately portrays the racial injustices of apartheid and how my forefathers benefited because of their light skin.GUILT TRIP!
