Bi Polar
#1
I have Bi Polar and I find it very hard to control. Sad right now I am going through a really manic depressive stage. I haven't slept for 3 days, the doctor is no good he won't even allow me sleeping pills. I want to scream it's tearing me up. I find it hard to control my feelings I can be very obsessed with things and people. I am falling apart I really hate this illness. Sad I am sorry about the rant. Sad

I'm very sorry for you, I wish there was something I could do. Is it possible to change doctors and get someone more helpful? Or seek assistance from some on-line forum? I can't think of anything else.

Bipolar disorder can be very challenging to treat or manage. Treatments and medications that work for one person might not for another. Are you on meds for it? If so your doc may not want to add sleeping pills to the mix.

Sleep deprivation itself is serious and can affect everything you do. Have you tried meditation and breathing techniques to quiet your mind so you can sleep? I agree with Spellbound, it's important to have a doctor that you feel good about. Online forums may help, as well, as there are many people struggling with the same disorder.

I hope you make progress with it soon!

Hang in there, Dan. I certainly can't speak from a medical standpoint and I agree with the above posters, but make sure that you are still doing things for *you* here and there.

How long have you known about your diagnosis? Bipolar disorder can usually be well managed, but it often takes time to discover the perfect mix of meds for a specific patient. Unfortunately, it's not an exact science.

Have you gone to some BP specialists?

If your current Dr. isnt helping you, then find another one. In fact, I would go to at least 5 different specialists in BP disorders and find one that you feel would work best for you.

BP is different for each person who has it.

Geminize is correct, that it is different for each person and the meds/treatments dont work for all of them the same way, if at all.

Do you know what type of BP you have?

Im not claiming to know anything about this, but I have known people who have it.
Some claim that what you eat affects you greatly.
Some claim that "sounds" aggravate the disorder, so they have to live where its quiet.
Some claim its just people in general, they need to keep interaction with others to a minimum.

What puts you to sleep? Cold air? Heat? Eating a lot at once? Music?

From what you have told us so far in your posts about your issues, I think you may have a very high stress/anxiety level...and that is what is keeping you from sleeping.

I would suggest not even thinking about sleeping pills, because they dont suppress the anxiety, so you wouldnt sleep anyway. I would talk to a specialist about stress/anxiety medication.

I think that might at least be a good start for you.

I go to group meetings with a section for bipolar disorder. I have something different, but the meetings really help everyone. Doctors don't always get it right, so it helps to talk to peers who know what you're going through. You might try something like that if it's available in your area.

You've got that right. If people can't understand something, they tend to judge it based on what they do understand. It gets really damn annoying, so I tend to not tell people about anything personal like that.
