Favourite Albums
#1
I don't think this thread exists, but if it does I apologize. I was just wondering what kind of music people like on this site. It might be interesting to have a thread where people list their current favourite albums for discussion/recommendations and whatnot!

^ 'Ys' by Joanna Newsom. Chamber folk with absolutely amazing and imaginative lyrics. Thought it was okay after the first listen - after the second I absolutely loved it!

^ 'In the Aeroplane Over the Sea' by Neutral Milk Hotel. Indie rock/folk with pretty dark but nonetheless well-made lyrics. It was made in 1998 (I think) but a lot of modern music fans still obsess over it and for good reason.

^ 'The idler wheel is wiser than the driver of the screw and whipping cords will serve you more than ropes will ever do' by Fiona Apple. Art pop. More aggressive than her last albums and also more musically interesting. This one grew on me a lot as well.

^ 'Archandroid' by Janelle Monáe. Honestly not sure how to define it since it jumps from lots of different genres but I think the official label is Neo-soul and Art pop. This is part 2 of a concept album the singer made that was inspired by Metropolis. It follows an android who's set to be disassembled for falling in love with a human. It's actually very far from the genres I usually listen to but I absolutely love this album... amazing singer too!

^ 'The Glow Pt. 2' by The Microphones. Psychedelic Folk. At first I thought this album was decent, but after I got a habit of falling asleep to it I started appreciating it more. It makes for kind of boring active listening but as background material when falling asleep or just relaxing it's amazing! It's like a lullaby to me c:

These are my current favourites and now I'm very curious to hear about yours! Big Grin

I've heard music from most of these but never listened to the entire albums. Except for Kid A which I didn't like very much. I preferred OK Computer. I'll look them up though! Smile

My favourite album of all time is David Bowie's Low. I also have a soft spot for Billy Talent's eponymous first album (though maybe more of a guilty pleasure) because of how often I listened to it at 16.

I have that Janelle Monae album, it was OK but I wasn't super crazy about it.

It took my concept album virginity so perhaps that's why I have a sweet spot for it. Anyways, I've never listened to a complete David Bowie album but based on a few individual songs I think it's music I could get into :3
