Gay journalist castrated and murdered in NY

I'm sure you saw this in the news a few years ago: Carlos Castro, 65, was a gay journalist that was brutally murdered by his boyfriend Renato Seabra, 21, at the luxurious Intercontinental Hotel in New York.

Seabra tortured Castro for several hours and used a cork screw to castrate him. He then smashed his face with a laptop computer and wore the severed testicles of the victim around his wrists. He also said he was finally released from his demons.

Castro was a very controversial character: he organised the wonderful Transvestite Night, an anual event that raised millions to help people with HIV/Aids; but he was also manipulative, jealous and a compulsive liar. I met him once in Lisbon.

Seabra is going to spend the rest of his days in jail (Ryker's Island, I believe).

This is not fresh news but people still talk about it in Portugal. The question that remains unanswered is why did this happen? Was it demonic possession (Seabra's version), a psychotic episode or just the work of a whimsical, egotistical young man?

Regardless of what the reasoning of this is, its still a brutal act in itself and I'm glad that Seabra is going to be spending his life in jail rather then be a risk to someone else. Without knowing the ins and outs of their relationship and personalities we won't really be able to paint a picture of how life was for them 2 when Carlos was alive. I didn't actually hear of this until I saw this thread.

Whenever I hear things like this it really makes my balls hurt, I really hate hearing about castration.

This is the first Ive heard of this story. Of course I dont read much news, as my life is usually enough bad news as it is.

I dont believe in demonic possession (thats one of my rants, but not at this time). From what I have heard about 100% of all "May/December" relationships, is that the older man is extremely controlling....sometimes to the point of the younger guy murdering him to just be able to "get away".

From my perspective, this kid was just looking for a sugar daddy and didnt want to give up the cushy lifestyle, so he stuck with whatever was being "dished out" by the older man. Then it just got to the point where he couldnt deal with it anymore, so he "snapped".

Another point of mine, where there is always a way out. Especially to save your own sanity. But apparently this young guy set himself up for this by not leaving when he should have.

Every human being on this planet is capable of this behaviour, it's just that we all have our own breaking points.

Perhaps the younger guy was pushed beyond his breaking point and had a psychotic break.

Still doesn't justify his actions.

It's possible but I'm not so sure about it. This was not premeditated, it was all very sudden and quick.

When they first arrived in NY, everything was fine between the two. Then, Seabra met some girls and went out with them and Castro didn't like it. Things started to go downhill from there.

Like, dfiant said this guy just reached his breaking point and snapped and killed his lover.But that still doesn't mean his actions were justifed.

There are so many weird details:

- When I met him several years ago, Castro told us he knew he was going to be murdered some day.

- Castro also said to his friends that he wanted to die in NY, his favorite city in the world.

- According to the autopsy, he was still alive when he was castrated.

- When a friend of theirs met Seabra in the lobby of the Intercontinental hotel, right after the murder, he was extremely calm and said 'Carlos is not coming down'

- It seems that Seabra tried to commit suicide after the murder.

- Even though the torture lasted for several hours, nobody heard anything or tried to call the police.

My guess is severe mental illness.

I'm still glad he's likely to be locked away for the rest of his life as I doubt psychiatry currently has the ability to treat someone like him so that he's not a menace to society.
