Good Musicals/Films/Plays?
#1
I've recently got done watching Sweeny Todd, Les Miserables, and Phantom of the Opera (It's sequel Love Never Dies as well) I'm going to go see Book of Mormon performed live. Smile I'm just curious as to if there are any really good musicals I should be watching? (I liked all of the musicals I mentioned if you need to know my tastes x3) Thanks! Smile

Sweeney Todd is one of my favourites - both the film and the play.

I'm not sure if you're talking about movies or live performances but I've seen and enjoyed The Wizard of Oz and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The first one is pretty childish and the last one is very... special, but you can look them up and see if they seem like something you'd enjoy Smile

I saw Book of Mormon, it's quite funny and clever in the degree of musical allusion that runs throughout the score.

In terms of film musicals you could pick up now, here are some of my favourites:

Cabaret
Jesus Christ Superstar
Tommy
RHPS
West Side Story
Singin' in the Rain
Little Shop of Horrors

I'm wondering if you'd like Wicked. The musical is much more lighthearted (and funny) than the book, but is still about standing up for what's right (and the oppressed) when it's dangerous to do so, how easy it is to be hated for challenging dogmatic views, and how easy it is to be misunderstood when opposing a tyrant (in this case it's a story of the Wicked Witch of the West, only in the musical she's actually a very admirable person who is only "wicked" because she opposes a dictator).

Two of my favorite songs from it (and also shows character growth, doesn't show where the 2 really didn't like each other at all when they first met):

Btw, the blonde is Glinda, and Elphie/Elphaba is the Wicked Witch (but more Rebel Hero, again in the musical version, the book is much darker and murkier).

It's not like a porper musical or anything, but it's one of the most hilarious movies I've ever seen and the music was superbly chosen and perfromed!

Phantom of the Paradise is a really fun and kitschy musical, great music by Paul WIlliams.
