The most embarrassing conversation for me was my dad asking me one night if I'd had sex yet. He had a whole bunch of books about gay topics and anal sex in front of him. Pretty much he was hell bent on protecting my "purity". I assured him that I wasn't sexually active (I lied). The next day I had one of my university friends over and my dad wasn't due home from work for a few hours so we had sex. Well long story short he came home unexpectedly and caught me with my ankles in the air. Thank God we had the sheet around us or he would have gotten quite the show. He then proceeded to give us a lecture on safe sex while we were both still wrapped in the sheet. I never heard from that guy again. Thanks so much dad!

My mom likes to keep check on my history so if Im not completely thorough in deleting certain things fro mthe memory then all hell breaks loose. Like she seems more or less ok with me being attracte to men and wot (in the "its a phase" sort of sense but its hard to tell) but porn is like a serious offense.

Also came out because of this tendency it is so goddamned embarassing having that kind of thing wrested out into a conversational topic wit parents D:

died inside

Are you using a family computer, or is it your own? At eighteen You would legally be an adult in the UK, and considered old enough to make your own decisions and take the consequences. If your mum is going through the private stuff on YOUR computer, it's about time she let go. I do understand that's never going to happen without some kind of struggle, but if you don't make some kind of a stand she'll still think it's okay to do it when you're forty.

Its kind of complicated but she's fairly well convinced of the moral ground upon which the battlements are set and all that nonsense. I seem to be let alone more often than usually but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. If I bring up how nice that whole privacy thing is I get some type of speech about trust and the implication that I'm hiding something or whatever. Plus all the mixed messages make it terribly confusing but for now its just an occasional catastrophe and I guess that can be lived with.

Trust works both ways!

Good luck, Mr.Dude.

Perhaps you should give her a copy of the Grundgesetz for Christmas. There's a few bits about privacy in there. Maybe you could highlight them for her!
