Ideas for school activities
#1
School year has just begun and I'm already looking for great activities to keep my students (ages 16 - 19) busy, motivated and entertained.

The music archive is already a classic: they listen to several mp3 files and organise them. Simple but effective.

The ride on the local ho-ho bus is another classic, they love it:

Any other tips?

Which ideas have you tried from this thread?:

https://gayspeak.com/showthread.php?t=30276 is one thread.

How did those work out?

I assume you get a new crop of students each semester... so why can't you use tried and true things you have done in the past?

Get them doing things. A service project or a building project is good because the students get involved in something bigger than themselves and of use to others.

Some are new this year, others aren't.

I had +200 hours with my tourism class last year and now I have that very same class again this year. Sad

Yes, that's exactly what I do.

My main problem is the tourism class I mentioned, it went well last year but I have no idea what to do this year.

Anyway, here's a couple of ideas that worked really well last year:

- Treasure hunt at the local shopping centre

- Photo marathon at school and city centre

- Rickshaw ride (very succesful in our area)

- Android tablets are always great but I need new apps Sad

- Marketing survey at school

- Lunch at local franchising + conversation with restaurant owner (subject: franchising)

- Exercise with paper maps

I try.

Mind I have don't know much about Tourism. While I did live in Las Vegas for a number of years and worked a hotel front desk. That was about as far as my education goes on tourism.

So why can't you do some of what you did last year? Sure you got some returning students but you got a lot more new student.

Apps: From time to time I hear of people making their own apps. I admit right now I know little about technomancy and how those dark arts are cast - but is it feasible to get your students to make an app for the class? IDK invent something?

In the bigger hotels/casinos of Las Vegas there are people who can get anything and everything a guests wants from tickets to shows to tourist rides to various places... The name they carried was "concierge". Perhaps you can play with that, have the kids be a concierge in some way?

join some fun club in your school, have part time job, be a tour guide and help in promoting your school and also help awareness and fund raising for some worthwhile causes about humanity, environment and other issues after your locality, nation or the world.
