With most crawlies I'm compassionate, and will pick up a beetle or insect and carefully take it outside, but
I'm afraid I show no mercy with spiders!

I know huntsman are harmless but I often get them in firewood and they jump out suddenly, and rise up like they're 'putting their dukes up' for fight. Maybe its a “jump to the left”, and they wanna play!Headscratch
Like Counselor, I make sure it is quick, and they don't suffer - but they NEVER win!

Some spiders will kill you. Its not their intent actually, they do not look up and see the ginormous monster (humans are giant monsters to them) and decide 'Hey I want to slay this giant'. Its just that they were given powerful weapons and their fear of you actually leads to them biting/stinging in order to survive. They have no idea that their tiny bite is big enough to bring down Goliath, or whatever your human name is.

The majority of spiders live out their whole life within a few cubic feet. They make a web and wait for their food to come to them. They are patient and wise, preserving their energies knowing that winds and time will deliver to them their food.

Most spiders are terrified of humans. Most will run or hide if at all possible, only biting or 'attacking' if there is no other option.

We have black widows, brown recluses and other non toxic spiders. I pretty much allow the colonies to reside in the corners of the ceiling. If a black widow or brown recluse decides to come in, I gently move it outside and give it a new home in the wood pile, or in a shrub, someplace where it will be happy.

The Daddy long Legs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pholcidae I pretty much leave to their own devices. I have a colony of about 6 to a dozen of these over the corner where I have several plants. They catch flies, gnats and other flying insects (like mosquitoes which are far more deadly and are intent on sucking your life from you).

I do not use (and do not need) pesticides to control 'pest' insects. My team of highly adapted specialists the spiders) make short work. Yes there is the terrible chore of cleaning up the corpses, but my team of assassins do the me the honor of putting the bodies in silk body bags so I don't have to see the dead bodies.

We also get this lovelies: White-Spotted Jumping Spider

These little guys are known to hunt other spiders like Black Widows, and also have a greater range as they don't stay in their web. more information:

I think perhaps you need to learn more about the spiders that live around you, you may actually find that teaming up with a few species and allowing them to do their thing may actually best serve you and your personal survival.

Spiders get a very bad rap, I guess the idea of 8 legs and multi-eyed terrifies humans. however most Spiders are 'docile' at best, if not actually more terrified of the two legged bare skinned giants that we are to them.

Spiders can be cute on pictures. But in reality they scare me. When I was younger I loved them though o:

I am arachnophobic but I do not take their lives in my hands as I do not have the right, I simply remove them from my room if they sit in the corner above my bed. They seem to like to congregate around my bed and under it for some reason :/ if they are elsewhere in my room I leave them. I do not think they are "cute" though. My phobia is odd, such that I cannot bare to touch a photo of a spider, yet if they are in my room on the opposite side to my bed I am fine...
