My pride theme attire ??? thoughts???
#11
Question on the black tar / black make up. Is it just under your eyes? Or is it your whole face.

Decades ago the 'black face' look (where the entire face was covered in black makeup) was popular but today is now considered a sign of racism.

If you are trying to get the baseball theme working then the tats and black under the eyes could work. Don't be afraid to put on an Expos tat or hat - they were invented long before the blue jays.

Forgive me if I have misunderstood the black makeup on the face.

This is an impression you get from the news of a few big city pride parades. Most of them, like at least 90%, in the world have no nudity or people running around wearing underwear. If you are talking about drag queens, transgender, bears, leather men, dykes on bikes, shirtless boys on floats wearing no less than what someone would at a beach, that attend these parades, it a shame that we, of all people, have something against people expressing themselves, being individuals, being themselves and it seems kind of like us judging people the same way gays have been treated and judged in history.

Dress so you feel great about it. If you want to feel hot and sexy, this is the day for it. Have fun.

Some great points were made about underwear being common attire at parades as well as much of what could be seen there could also be seen on the beach. I'm a bit modest in public and I do my best to keep my kids from being exposed to things that make me uncomfortable personally. As such, we go to very family friendly beaches and I would not take them to a pride parade.

I only mention this because I didn't want my initial response to sound like I am against such attire at a pride parade. I am not embarrassed by those that wear their undies to the parades nor do I think they are wrong for doing so. To each their own and if you're cool with it then so am I! Wink

I think it is called underwear because its supposed to be under something.

I could be wrong about that. Apparently I am having a huge running streak of being wrong lately.

Honestly, I have never figured out the connection between nakedness and LGBT "pride". Sure it is more likely to end with HIV or some other STD, which for the LGBT community appears to be the "happy ending" when it comes to sex - thus increasing the likelihood that one will be able to practice being LGBT. I still can't fathom the pride part there.

Which isn't to say I am a prude. After all I used to wear my kilt (its a kilt not a skirt) in the traditional manner you know with shirt, socks shoes, etc. and none of that stuff we call 'underwear'. It was still modest enough to keep guys guessing. Well except when I was on stages, floats, ladders, etc. Such are the risks of celebrating being half Scottish.

June also being the highland games and all of that other interesting (if you are part or wholly Scottish) stuff. The kilt made sense.

I hate to be the one to point this out, but many of the LGBT people are looking at the end of day news and are wondering if perhaps we are leaving the world with the impression that LGBT is only about sex. Thankfully most of us are not militant about that little worry and have no problem with doing nothing at all to kill the stereotypes that gays are sex fiends and that homosexuality is only about sex.

Watch any news channel that covers the Gay Parade in a 'sound byte' - The bawdiest and most sexually explicit clips are shown, and the larger crowd of 'normal' people going about in normal attire and attempting to show the LGBT community in the light that hey we are people too is completely ignored.

Lord only knows how a cleaner image of homosexuality may actually lead to greater tolerance and far less gay people killing themselves because they were bullied past the breaking point. Half the the hatred of us surrounds the perception that all LGBT are uncontrolled sex fiends, thus the popular connection that gay = child molester and other not so complimentary suggestions.

But hey, if going around scantily clad and reveling in the sex part of homosexuality is who who are, by all means please disregard any of the consequences that may come from that.

But, if you are actually one of those people who can clearly see that our behaviors and actions, and how we present Self to the public also have an impact on how LGBT around the globe are considered and treated, then maybe you want to wear something over that underwear.

The problem with media today is that it is global. No doubt somewhere in Russia the sound bytes of our media are being re-shown with the announcer pointing out that the USA has no policy to keep the gays from promoting homosexuality and this is the end result. USA wrong, Putin Right. We should really consider tightening those laws which protect the good people of Russia from the horror that is 'gay'.

So what you do at pride is likely to have a ripple affect. I have no idea how far, or how many will be impacted by your display of 'self' during this time. It may not have no impact, or may actually lead to more suffering for innocent gays who have never gone about in public with only their underwear in a society where they are likely to be stoned, imprisoned, or punished just because the popular myth conception we free LGBT set is that gays are unable to conduct themselves in a modest fashion.

The intent of all of that is to not go off on you and make you feel bad. My intent is to show cause, effect and hopefully bring to your attention that LGBT are still cast in a very bad light and our little festivities are not helping in many ways.

Pride is just tacky. I will never step foot around it.

"Wooooo we're gay! Time to run around in our underwear and get drunk!"

No. Sorry, this is not who I am.

Well for me, it is not in the sense of hooking up, or getting drunk (I've been sober 6 months) the whole point for me is just showing that I feel comfortable in my own body, even though I don't have the perfect body you might see in the porn industry. I want to go out there to feel free and alive. I want to feel detatched from my regular life and clothing. It will kind of be a liberation of sorts. For me it will be celebrating who I am, how comfotable I am in my body, and showing my fun side Smile

Not really meant to be sexual. I just want to be sexy. lol.

Maybe you should post a picture of yourself wearing the outfit to assist in us giving our opinion on whether or not you should wear it to pride.Wink

I'm kind of on the fence. While I mostly agree with these guys ^^^, and that the Parades do seem to spotlight the worst (?) of gay life. For many straights, these parades on TV is the only experience with gays they have - therefore they stereotype ALL of us as acting like this. These aren't exactly the role models I want working on my behalf for my friends, family, co-workers...

... but on the other hand... I commend them with their extroverted-ness, and ability to be out there in the open and in the faces of everyone who would rather we all be in the closet... out of sight out of mind. They're the ones that are paving the road for the rest of us in some ways.

I agree with Iceblink, maybe we need a photo first before we can judge properly :p Wink

Only kidding, do what feels right for you, nice to know you want to celebrate yourself and life.
