Should alcohol abusers be allowed liver transplants?

I think it is inhuman to deny a person medical treatment that might save their life, with a few caveats. In the situation where a person's behaviour is the cause of the condition they should be able to show they have and are continuing to correct the behaviour. This is in fact one of the goals of the screening process as has already been pointed out.

When we start limiting our compassion to those we consider "worthy" we are judging people. Always a risky proposition at best. Human beings just aren't really equipped to judge others' actions.

I wouldn't say that the thread itself is inhumane. But some of the attitudes make me uncomfortable.
