Supernovas go out in all directions and feel so impersonal when your whole planet is wiped out by one. but gamma ray bursts are directed, and while its true you world is going to die a horrible death, you at least die with the knowledge that it wasn't impersonal, that something - some Horrible, God-like Entity at least decided to wipe your world out, thus giving you hope of some sort of eternal afterlife, even if it is with a being that wiped out your who world for shits and giggles.
