What music helps you with a split up?
#1
Funny the ways we have of coping with a bad relationship and eventually getting over the split.
This sort of thing was brought to mind in responding to my post about help with MP3 sites (strangely!)
I was always a big fan of ABBA and it was a shame when they went their separate ways for a while. Eventually there were collaborations with Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber et al ( I love Chess The musical!).
Abba wrote some pretty good stuff about post-rent relationship break ups and the angst-filled hours, weeks and months whilst we go through the healing process.
I've found a few tracks of Angnetha Folktag – mostly powerful ballads about love, longings, unrequited love and the sort of stuff we play when we're feeling sorry for ourselves. Oh yes, that men can be pigs should be set to song! LOL Are you listening? You know who you are, you should be castrated and drowned at birth! LOL
How do others get over the ex? It took me three months or so and a lot of the sort of stuff I just mentioned after Ex II (don't get me started!).
With Ex III, I simply made a huge joke of it all and within two weeks I didn't have or own a shit to give! Wasn't me crying on the phone at 10pm! (“We are Borg, we have adapted!)
I really feel the Ballad of Tom Jones was quite fitting for that relationship, I think it made No 4 in the charts when we were still together.
My lines are in red!

"Ballad Of Tom Jones"
What did I do wrong?
Oh you nearly drove me cuckoo
Am I really all that bad?
You're worse than Hannibal Lechter, Charlie Manson, Freddie Krueger
Why are we still together?
Oh I can't leave until you're dead
You mean 'til death do us part?
I mean like cyanide, strangulation or an axe to your head
It was lucky for us I turned the radio on
They say that music soothes the savage beast
There was something in that voice that stopped us seeing red
The two of us would surely have ended up dead

[Chorus]

You stopped us from killing each other
Tom Jones, Tom Jones

How did you get over yours?

You don't need a man, you have America ( and if you don't live there, America probably has you (under surveillance, that is! xP))
YAY FREEDOM.

Uhm depends. If the relationship was emotionally horrifying and the person listening is pissed at his ex this might work.

I tend to take a more proactive stance to break-ups.....

Oh my love
Please don't cry
I'll wash my bloody hands and
We'll start a new life

I ripped out his throat
And called you on the telephone
To take off my disguise
Just in time to hear you cry

When you
You mourn the death of your bloody valentine
The night he died
You mourn the death of your bloody valentine
One last time

Oh, my love
Please don't cry
I'll wash my bloody hands and
We'll start a new life
I don't know much at all
I don't know wrong from right
All I know is that I love you tonight

et cetera

I like this song (change gender as necessary):

I didn't quickly find an official music vid on it (I'm not surprised this one didn't catch on, too many men wouldn't like it and too many women DO need a man, it defines their primary existence, and in worst cases, entire existence, so the majority wouldn't be able to relate to it, at least not for long) so I just grabbed a random one...though come to think of it this person really shouldn't have had Ariel the Little Mermaid in it at all...

Short but sweet. Oh, the hair..!

I'm not a country-western fan, but this one nails it for me.
