What 'ruins' a movie for you?

meridannight Wrote:Mark Wahlberg sings? since when? i have never heard him. the thing with Wahlberg is that he was an actor first, he got famous through acting. so it doesn't matter. we tend to think of him as an actor rather than a musician.

same goes for Jared Leto. actor first, then he started pursuing his band thing.

You never heard of Marky Mark and the funky bunch? He was a rapper. He actually started as a rapper not an actor, 1991. He is the brother of the Infamous New Kids On the Block's bad boy Donnie Wahlberg

Yup.

When he lead the "Funky Bunch", he scored two big hits. "Good Vibrations" spent a few weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and sampled Loetta Halloway's "Love Sensation". After that, they released "Wildside", which sampled Lou Reed's "Wild Side". That song got to #10 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Anytime there is lazy acting or lazy writing in an otherwise good movie.

Movies where the character plays himself.

Take Jim Carrey Films. Many of them have him playing himself. Was actually shocked that Jim Carrey could act as his portrayal in KickAss 2 as a character who is not Jim Carrey. In fact he was so good at actually acting it wasn't until his death scene that I figured out who was playing the character.

Liar Liar, Ace Ventura.... well most of the movies he has been in he plays the same very narrow (and ofttimes stupid) character.

Second: I loath plot holes. If a movie brings up 5 questions it needs to have 5 answers, and not sloppy stop gap answers, but real answers.

Third: Happily ever after when everyone should be dead. Deep Impact, Armageddon, Independence Day, and assorted other end of the world movies would do better if the world actually ended. Having a miraculous 'save' in the last moments has gotten rather predicable and lame.

Its the time bomb counter issue. Everyone can disarm the bomb with 1 second left. The tension just doesn't exist anymore because we all know that no matter how frantic and hopeless it appears, the character will disarm the bomb with a second to spare and then add insult to injury by adding some sort of quip.

I would like it to be an uncertainty thing, uncertain that if in this movie they will disarm the bomb, or not. The only way to bring real uncertainty in is to have producers not afraid to kill off all the stars in a blaze of glory.

Deep impact would have ended better with the all to realistic and more plausible 'Mankind failed' and Western Canada plowed by a huge chunk of Comet and the dust cloud, fire storm and horrific disaster wipe out most of humanity.

Instead of the President saying some charming things about rebuilding, it would be nice if he gave a farewell speech and talked about how noble humanity was and how slipping into the long night of extinction isn't all that bad.

That is the kind of movie people would come out of and stare anxiously into the sky, perhaps even prompt people to press the government into actually expending more money in space than in war.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956 and 1978) left us all knowing full well They Won. The Invasion (2007) ended up with mankind winning and feeling rather anticlimactic. The ending just wasn't right for the story. I expected to see Nicole Kidman pointing and screaming at the last surviving human or something.. not having humanity going about business as usual with some dull commentary about emotions are better than a hive mind.

Fourth: Comedies: When they become comical let me know....

I so rarely laugh at modern comedies. I actually chuckled and laughed at Bob Hope, Lucille Ball, George Burns and they didn't have to rely on profanity, overt sexual overtones or racism.

Comedy Drama - Seriously? Is this like damp dryness? or hot coldness?

Fifth: CGI-Porn - it is those movies where CGI is the only point, plot, story, character development, you know the real parts of the movie barely exist to give us 2 hours of special effects that only go to show that the production company has lots of money to to throw around and doesn't care if you know it.

Sixth: Reboots: It can stop now. Seriously, Stop rebooting batman over and over again, stop rebooting Superman a dozen times, just stop - please just stop.

Seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth and so on and so forth: Modern movies just suck. all around in general suck. They promise one thing then fail to deliver. They are more about making money than making a quality story.

Back in earlier films they actually cared about developing the story and following some sort of logic and reasoning. It wasn't about shock and awe, it was about telling a story.

We have no more story tellers, and the Movies show it.

Predictable cliches.

I can't stand cliches like the ones commonly seen in horror movies. The girl being chased through the woods and always manages to trip over her own two feet. When someone lands a hit on the killer and then they drop their weapon and run. When the police do arrive, it's the oldest, fattest cop on the force and he usually gets killed the minute he exits his car. Not turning on a light when you enter a room and then walking slowly backwards...right into the killer. You get the idea.

Some of the romance movies are riddled with cliches too. Guy and girl meet. They have a great time for a while until one of them finds out a secret about the other. Cue the big fight between them and the infamous, "I never want to see you again" line. Play sad music and dual screen shots of them being depressed until one of them gets a job offer somewhere far away. The other one finds out and rushes to the airport just in time to see the plane leave. Cue more sad music and then the person leaving magically appears behind them and they reconcile. ::yawn::

Just like what is mentioned in the original post - any form of animal cruelty just for shocks no matter how much the movie budget is gets my instant disapproval and its off - no animal cruelty should be viewed for entertainment pleasure, I don't care if its integral to the plot either - it can be implied if that's the case...they don't have to show some sick fuck doin stuff like that

I can't handle movies where the plot centers around this one magical or impossible thing in an otherwise normal and not magical world. Like Click, and I think that move about the the hot tub time machine. I actually never watched because I know it would just drive me crazy. A lot of Christmas movies are like that too. Especially if the new Santa is some hot guy that's going to get married to some hot chick. Or if the hot chick is a descendant of Santa or something. I just can't handle it.

I also can't handle movies where Santa is real, and gives presents, but none of the adults believe in him. So like, how do they explain the crazy presents under the tree that they did not give their children? HMMMM? Or am I supposed to believe that despite Santa's existence he is NOT out giving gifts? What? I can't do it. It makes me insane.

For that reason I can't watch most Christmas movies. Anything that the hallmark channel comes out with I can't watch. I enjoy fantasy and stuff in movies but it can't just apply to this ONE situation. It has to have some sort of "logical" explanation. As a side note, I'm not one of those people who expects everything I see on TV to be a reflection of reality because there's also nothing I hate more than someone going "that wouldn't happen in real life" because if I wanted to @#$%ing see what would happen in real life I would leave my @#$%ing house instead of watching TV. I just need whatever fantasy world I'm going in to on the TV to make some sort of sense.

Also, even though I enjoy laughing I can't handle a lot of comedy movies because most of the time they're actually romance movies and always end with some sort of moral lesson or whatever. That's not what I want in a comedy. If I'm watching a comedy the big ending should be really @#$%ing hilarious. Not a damn moral lesson or romantic ending.

And also as a big horror movie fan too, I don't like when supernatural horror becomes slasher horror. I love BOTH the ghostly horror movies and the slasher horror movies but sometimes when I'm looking for a movie about a haunting because I want to be SCARED by the creepy ghosts I just end up with a ghost that would rather cause gory deaths than scare everyone.

I've also seen a few movies that were supposed to be a supernatural horror movie but in the end it was just a crazy person. I don't like that either. I like movies about crazy people going on a murder spree but if I ask for a movie about ghosts that's what I better get. :K

no. neither do i know New Kids on the Block and Donnie Wahlberg. unless you mean a 90s boy band New Kids on the Block, then i've heard of the name but i don't know any songs of theirs. and i don't like rap (except for Eminem). it was never a big thing in Europe either, so i guess it's not really surprising.

I was just reminded of a game me and a friend used to do back in the 80s when LIFETIME movies first came out...television for victims....

We would come up with movie titles and captions and then cast them...we laughed so hard it hurt....

I hate unrealistic responses,
IE my friends point out well its scifi, its fantasy its ... of course its not real.

Well, I understand it isnt real but when these people do stuff soo stupid a human of average intelligence would NEVER CONSIDER doing it. it irritates me.

probably a bad example:
There is a long rectangular table.
On one end sits bob (a robotics engineer)
On the other end, a piece of candy.
Bob wants the piece of candy but he cannot reach it, so bob goes into the next room and brings back a bunch of robotics parts.
then Bob builds a robot that possesses enough strength to tilt the table toward bob so the candy will slide into his lap, thus bob accomplished his goal of getting the piece of candy.

now I have to accept bob is indeed a robotics engineer and has the capability of building a robot in 10 minutes as the video shows, just like in star wars (I know its fake BUT I have to accept in this fictional world these things exists) HOWEVER stupidity is stupidity in every universe.

^^^ the whole time Bobs ordeal is going on, my mind is screaming "WALK OVER AND GET THE PIECE OF CANDY!!!"
Then the movie is pretty much ruined for me Big Grin
