#1
Any Brits looking forward to soul cakes?

I got curious and looked up some recipes. They sound worthwhile to me.

Little spice cakes referred to in the song

A soul, a soul, a sould cake
Please good missus a soul cake
An apple, a pear, a plum, a cherry
Any good thing to make us all merry

One for Peter, two for Paul and one for Him who made us all.

It is sung by trick or treaters on Halloween and the soul cakes were the original treat.

Darn,,, and I've been handing out Twinkies all these years,,, and what the kids really wanted was a flat cookie looking cake with a smiley face on it!!!

OH, it's worse than that, @Jim. Being of Scottish origin, it isn't even a cake as you know it. It's a cookie and has currants on top, along with a cross made never so subtly by the use of a wooden spoon handle to imprint it--or maybe a spurtle--who knows. There are lots of variations and some of them look downright edible. [Meaning that oats were not mentioned.] Most of the ones I saw pics of were too thin to hide razor blades in, so it is no wonder they have not caught on in the US. Actually, they are probably no longer to be had in the UK, since the little monsters have been conditioned to look for bowls of "sweets," which is what they call candy. Who wants something crumbly and tasting of allspice and nutmeg when you can beg for Gobstoppers? To top it off the bairns are actually celebrating something spelled Samhain and pronounced SOW-een. Now how can Walmart possibly make money on that?

You can google all of this, so it must be true.
