My granny grew up in the depression, so I learned there is a use for EVERYTHING.
Soup cans, string, old newspaper, old tin foil, plastic milk jugs, toilet paper centers, old carpet, old clothes, etc.....

just as a note, it takes 5% of the energy to recycle aluminum as it does to get it out of ore, James

Your Granny was right MisterTinkles. If you think about it enough, it isn't necessary to throw stuff away although bettrer still is not to collect it in the first place.

The trash company gave us 5 gallon buckets. That lasted a few pick-ups, someone stole the 5 gallon buckets. Rolleyes

I have compost heaps, and shred paper for the shrubbery compost.

Paper towels are good for the veg garden compost.

We only generate half of a 33 gallon bag of rubbish a week.

Aluminum cans I collect and take to the metal company in town every few months. I have few tin cans since I can my own food....

Good thing I guess - can't rely on the sanitation department to bring us into the 21st century.
