When you get it working right again, manually make a restore point on your pc. I think you have to make one at least every three months.
My XP, which I got in 2008 (last chance) came with a pre-installed program called Farstone RestoreIt. It would create a restore point every time the computer is rebooted. A couple years ago I came up with a super virulent virus that was rewriting the registry, and it evaded detection by whatever freeware virus protection I had, then again defeated Kapersky, and was only slowed down some by Malware Bytes. Using the RestoreIt program, I did a restore to a date which I knew was before I had gotten the virus, and that fixed the remaining problems.
I don't know if Farstone is still around. It might be worth a search.
