It's about an alien invasion. It's on FX in the summer.

We only saw 2-3 of the episodes of season one.

TV stations appear to like to mix up their programing schedule all the time. So we are waiting for it to come out on DVD via Netflix and watch it then.

It looked like a good premise

I fell out of love with it.

The few episodes I watched I discover that there is a lot more fiction than science.

The first problem with an alien invasion for resources is that nearly every resource you can think of from minerals to metals we now know exist in abundance elsewhere, water in comets, minerals and metals (and even water) in the asteroids.

Thus any species looking for resources doesn't need to occupy a planet, make war. It would be far easier just to come into a system and reduce comets and asteroids to slag.

Life and the complex molecules that come with life (proteins for one) would be a resource to secure, but either the species would steal a bit and farm it elsewhere, or the species would come in with harvesters and strip the planet down to its soil.

Even the idea of taking over a world for a colony doesn't make much sense. We already have the basic technologies needed to terraform planets like Mars. Granted it would take us a century to get a thick enough atmosphere to support simple life, but we already have the technology and produce the amount of energies we need.

IF warfare just to wipe out the species is all you are after, its real easy to sit back in the asteroid belt and redirect asteroids at earth. No need for ground troops, no need to even enter the atmosphere.

There is no plausible reason to actually invade another world.

Unless they were hunters who liked their trophies and battles (preferably ones they could win, the best being just hard enough to look impressive but still sure enough that they'll have bragging rights).

Another possibility is if it's a dying species that are together and don't have any faster than light transportation. In that case, assuming Earth could support them, they might take it as their last hope of survival because they really don't think they can last another thousand years or so finding yet another suitable planet.

Just saying. I haven't seen Falling Skies yet myself.
