Based on your location, and fear of being out, not being a target is your mode of operation. I get that, and there are many guys who are going through the same thing.

You are a mess from being a repressed gay man, your journey/process for being your authentic self is unique to you.. Don't let anyone dictate or make you feel bad about your choices or preferences. Nobody can tell you what is right for you.

Am I really that bad? Now I'm getting very self conscious, I never really thought it was strange I just figured that I was very conservative. Should I be concerned that my behavior isn't healthy?

Did a quick search, and you should check out any local resources for gay men in your area.

Thanks for the links

I was asking about secret gay signs not because I need one, but because I wanted to know the history of gay symbols, Im a history major and I enjoy learning.

Recently, the most discrete thing (not so discrete to be honest) I've seen are pride bracelets.

I remember good ol' Wade with one of them.

(whatever happened to good ol' Wade?)

As of now, though, I only see, where I am, 2 extremes. You're either out and open about it or you are not, but no one here wears any kind of visible indication.

I think lots of straight men know the Human Rights Campaign sticker - gold equal sign on a blue background.

I had a fun experience the other night out drinking on base. Have a regular group that gets together for drinks on the weekend. Well our group (mixed Navy & Contractors) broke up early leaving me and another guy drinking by ourselves. We pulled our table over and joined another table - all Soldiers.

Normal drinking conversation, but I dropped the "I'm an openly gay man, don't kick my ass." line into the conversation. Well wouldn't you know it, boy-toy E4 can't keep his eyes off me. I'm twice his age. I met his stare and gave him the wink and the nod.

boda-boom boda-bing... we chatted a little bit, cute as can be but a closet case... concerned he won't be able to advance in rank if he was out. He was in your line of work... ground pounder though.

He was a 11B - Inf.

Edit, maybe you should be contractor for a bit. Make some money overseas.
Medics are usually in demand. There's still work to be had out there. Isn't quite as rewarding as it was a couple years ago.
