GS+++++Pornagraphic???
#1
So, I drove over the hill to the nearest Toyota Dealership today to have some work done on my Tacoma. They have free WiFi. I thought I'd do a few word games on my i touch while I waited for my truck to be repaired. Well, GS is blocked because it is a "Pornagraphic" Site. I was surprised. I've never seen anything pornagraphic here. So where are you hiding the porn? I want to see it Smile
Seriously though, has anyone come across this anywhere else?

Perhaps the filters assume that sites with the word "gay" in it are pornographic? To be honest I can't really blame them, that probably applies to more than 90% of them Smile

On top I'm either seeing a Lady Gaga add or a male sex toys add. I shan't be clicking on either one. The guy in the sex toy add creeps me out. He just has this look in his face like he doesn't care about anything. He doesn't ever look happy.

At the time of Justin Berry and his pornographic site of a young boy having sex on the internet, Congress ordered all gay sites to be monitored. Because of the name of this site, we are monitored by the FBI. Be careful.

It probably is because of that male sex toy advertisement. I don't see it on my laptop because adblock but I do see it on my phone.

Other than that I don't know why it would be construed as a pornographic site.

Site filters use a combination of key words and a database of well known pornographic sites to block content. This site probably triggers the key word search because of the multiple discussions of sex, use of the word gay, and mentions of male anatomy. Along with gay porn catchphrases like 'twink' and 'bear.' It all comes together to look very much like a porn site for a filter.

In Saudi Arabia (where I live) they are pretty strict with their censorship, blocking a lot of websites for what they believe to be "harmful" Now this is not just porn, but also lifestyle, religion, political, etc. I was pleasantly surprised when I found GS and it was unblocked. I was certain anything pro gay would be blocked!

guys!
be especially careful if you travel, on a visa, at work, at a free hot spot.
install a web monitor like Little Snitch on your computer and go to your friendly web sites. pick any one of them, try the nytimes.com.

do you expect the internet is for free? Even a small tiny bit no cost.... not.

I would suggest you try an off shore vpn service like:
HMA (Hide My Ass) as the name suggests its low performance
or
BolehVPN stronger on an international usage basis

for that occasional neighborhood coffee shop:
setup a personal VPN channel to your home server. VPN is a well established internet protocol there are several versions. Dont punish yourself with the darkest, most difficult to setup version because the car dealership will not match your technology. VPN is available to setup on your iPhone too.

What??????? You live in Saudi Arabia? Where, they would stone you to death if you did a gay thing? I mean, like, there's no juries there, even if you didn't actually do anything gay if you are brought to like, court, those religious judge guys might still like. I mean, even if I didn't have gay sex my presence in Saudi Arabia could get me stoned just for not believing in any Abrahamic god.
Saudi Arabia?

I think Michael has the right answer to this.... it's filters looking for specific words. We are so open minded and open mouthed that all the wrong words come up in the list.... hey, that's just us... Confusedmile:
