Gay travel? Yes or no?
#1
Hi everyone Smile

I'm looking forward for my next holiday soon. Have anyone had experience with LGBT-friendly hotels (such as TAG-accredited or Gay Welcome member)? I'm wondering if they provide more than 'regular' hotels.

Never done it, but then again, I tend not to look for gay-centric things when I travel. Are you specifically looking to meet up with and interact (clothed or otherwise) in your travels? Is that the main point of your vacation? (Not judging, just curious.)

Haven't done it... even all-day events aimed at LGBT people, with the very homogenous music and entertainment "they" think "we" like, tend to get on my nerves pretty quickly, so the idea of a cruise or other multi-day experience targeting that audience doesn't really appeal to me. That said, a hotel or other provider that identifies as safe or welcoming is probably a good idea if you're going someplace where this is not something that can be taken for granted.

Staying at a gay friendly hotel would be important because I don't want my partner and I to be denied service, but going to a gay hotel is not that important. That makes me thin of a resort type setting where people would be spending their vacation. When I travel, usually the hotel is just a place to keep your stuff, shower, and sleep and I will be out doing things during the day and evening. If you are traveling to an area you are not familiar with, sticking with a major hotel chain ensures you are likely staying somewhere that is gay friendly since almost all of the major hotel groups now are and most of those groups have under them chains that range from budget to luxury.

I don't do business with a business/corporation that targets specific groups of people.

Now I might do a gay cruise if I decide to become a harlot and slut around with strange men and gay men (yes there is a difference). I would go to a gay bar if I wanted to be harassed while trying to get drunk.

But a gay hotel/motel/B&D just because they cater to the gay? Nah.

I dislike segregation no matter which direction it travels in. To me, these gay hotels, gay travel packages are a form of reverse segregation, which does nothing more than to reinforce the walls that separate LGBT from the straight world.

I don't quite understand "gay friendly hotel." I can remember travelling in college and saving bucks by asking for a single bed when it was obviously two guys registering. In that case the other guy was straight and we just went to sleep. What's the gay friendly hotel thing all about?

I've never used gay travel, but I wouldn't be opposed to it.

It means a hotel that would not turn away someone if they knew or suspected the person or couple was gay or lesbian and not expecting a person to act in a way to conceal that part of himself or a couple to act in a way that would not reveal that they are a couple. If I have a choice, I would rather not give my money to a company that does support equality.
