Under the Sheltering Sky was made into a film by Bernardo Bertolucci, methinks, with John Malkovitch starring.
Confusedmile:

Sorry, missed this yesterday...

The Sheltering Sky is written by Paul Bowles who was good friends & maybe a lover of WSB???

WSB also known as Uncle Bill is best known for his first novel Junkie which was banned around the world when first published in 1953.

His novel Naked Lunch was made into a very odd film by David Cronenberg in 1991. The film & novel are a fantastical autobiography of WSBs varied drug abuses and halucinations.

Amazing the amount of drugs this man used but live to 83 and wrote until his death.

He made a great appearance on Saturday Night Live playing one of his characters Dr. Benway. Here is the youtube link: Beware it is a little bloody! I love the sound of his voice.
