A more minimalist approach does not place great expectations on certain events (like having a career). Minimalism is about leading a more mindful and purposeful life. Its not about having the right career, its about having the right life.
You mentioned about making 'a decent living'. That could be a key. What is a decent living to you? What value do you place on money and the stuff that money buys?
I think you may have misunderstood my comment about a decent living. What I mean is that I want to be able to take care of myself. I don't place a lot of value on money, nor do I have a materialistic mindset. That couldn't be further from the case.
Being able to take care of MYSELF *IS* very important to me. That is what I meant by making a decent living. Self sufficiency, etc.
I agree with what you say in that a career *should* be a source of contentment and energy, that is why I'm trying to figure out just what I want in a career.
Your opinion of the minimalist approach to life is understood and noted. However, having a career that is right for me, is part of having the right (mindful, purposeful) "life".
