I'm in the same situation and I also have to buy a gift for the manager because she's my 'secret friend' (I don't know how you name that in english) so I'm just thinking in give her a 50$ gift card from a local store, because I really don't like this sensation of giving something because I'm obliged :/

Secret Santa maybe? That's what they do here and I'm pretty sure it is the same thing...
