I am becoming more aware of the fact that the chances of me having my own kids is pretty much nil at this point in life.

just FYI: a friend of my husband decided to have kids with 55 via surrogate, who had twins which are now about 5. He’s very happy and the kids seem to be doing well.

the only constant in your complaints is you. Could it be your expectations of your fellow humans are too high? 

Was too high. I moved the goalpost back. If there's anything lower than psychopath that I can become aware of, I'll move my expectations back farther.

What’s further back? Serial killer?

Serial killer implies actually doing the crime, but yes, I do believe all humans are potential serial killers. Excuse me, I KNOW all humans are potential serial killers. Give anyone a legal opportunity and they'll murder people in a heartbeat.

I think you overestimate the pleasure one derives from killing people. Getting rid of the body looks like such a drag.
