Same as my little corner of the world - 18-20 families out here and NOT ONE home invasion, robbery or anything else is as long as "Bubba" can remember and he was born and raised it the same house is is now bedridden at 98 in.
In the 10 years I have owned my property here, the sheriff has been out here 3 times, in an official capacity, once because one of my neighbors hung himself, once because there was an arson fire on the rail trestle near my house and, once because I called him to remove the woman (a guest of a neighbor) that was stumbling around the edge of my property and repeatedly falling in my irrigation ditch - she was jacked up on meth and drunk.
Sure Danny, the sheriff comes out here socially quite a bit, but that's because my private pistol range is closer than the county range and, he loves getting beaten by the gay guy on the dueling tree. LOL (Joke between us, I knock all of my targets to his side of the tree and he says "Damn, I guess limp wristing doesn't affect the shots after all." to which I reply "No, it helps, you should try it sometime.") * have to understand the mechanics of shooting a handgun to understand the humor in that*
We don't lock our doors out here, no reason to, someone is always home and, though not all of us are concealed carry legal, we are all legal gun owners and sportsmen (and women). Because of that, this area is well known as the place not to break into a home unless you want to find yourself nose to barrel with some gun or another with the homeowner on the other end of that gun who isn't afraid to use it.
Some of us have tongue in cheek door plaques that read "We Don't Dial 911" and others, like me have "Never Mind the Dog - Beware of Owner." Yes it's meant to be humorous, but there is a lot of truth in those signs too.
