Exactly as I have always said, if you outlaw guns, you take them from those that should have them and give them to those that shouldn't. The only way to correct that would be to go back in time and insure the gun was never invented, in which case we'd still have cross bows and probably some other sort of ranged weapons that would pose the same problem.

A better alternative might be to arm and train everyone. A criminal would think twice if they knew whomever they were considering as a target was armed and knew how to use the gun they had.
