Cub, were it me, at 34, I'd go for the stability and, the probably already building retirement account (401K) over happiness with my job but, that wouldn't stop me form taking online or evening classes and exploring other options, just in case something that offered equal or better security and financial stability was or were to become available as a result of furthering my education.
Yes contentment goes a long way, but there comes a time when we have to look at the days ahead in which we will either be unable to work, or be old enough that we choose not to work any longer. We still need to provide for ourselves and, very possibly our families, after we retire. So at some point it's the money that matters most, if we don't want to struggle and barely subsist through our retirement years.
