Just put down The Folded Leaf by William Maxwell. My first thought after it finishing was, "I have to go to gayspeak." Has anyone else read this one? It was published in 1945 and focuses on a very intimate relationship between two young college boys in the 20's. The exact nature of their relationship is somewhat ambiguous, but I suspect that that is due somewhat to the cultural restrictions of the time in which it was written. Either way, it's a heartbreaking, lyrical book about the difficulty the maturity process in a culture that does not prepare, nor encourage, its children to grow up; something I can relate to very well. Give it a read if you have the chance.
