@ceez Well I knew something was weird because if the internet is actually down then you can't route traffic anywhere...but the fact I was still remoted into my office but nothing else was working I knew it was probably DNS related. The odd thing is I had to put the 8.8.8.8 on my router, putting it on my PC didn't work for whatever reason. That and my website was still accessible to the outside...
VPN's can be a little tricky. If this is something like Nord VPN might be a matter of tweaking their software but I've been using OpenVPN and on the VPN server you can choose to "push" DNS so you can pass DNS queries through the VPN, useful if you want to resolve domain names to the other side like at work I can find other computers and workstations, active directory and so on.....or "push" gateway if you want to route all internet traffic through the VPN which is basically what you're doing when you're on something like Nord or PIA. I had a lot of learning and figuring out stuff back in march when all the COVID stuff started. Plus I had to manually enter all the routes to all the VLANs and so on, it's neat.
