I think you're already not completely in the closet as long as you tell some of your close friends. It is ok to hide your identity in certain situations-- you may pretend to be straight while collaborating with your colleagues. However, we need to crack open the closet a little bit to breathe, to know that actually there are others who care about us. Otherwise, it can be really depressing.
