I have gone off Matthew Bourne. I saw his version of “Swan Lake” that was brilliant and original but since then, in my opinion, he has gone down and down. I saw his version of “the greatest love story ever told” (Romeo & Juliet) that he set in a psychiatric hospital and in which (offstage) Juliet was raped. He has his limitations as a choreographer and in his version of R&J he used elements of breakdance. I also saw “Dorian Grey” and was singularly unimpressed.
