Try, and specially in this situation of your life, to avoid a cold (i mean cold, not bad) relationship with your parents if you are able to have it the other way round. Be brave and talk to your mum if you guess she won't treat you violently and will support your feelings instead. As i said, make the best of the deal, talking to her will make you both feel much better if you right know reckon you NEED it. Let her know your feelings, listen to her worries. Open a constant dialog, that's the best way! How long has it been since she discovered it?
