Quote:Was just reading about city lights and how star gazers are finding less and less areas to do their thing. The article went on to describe how much energy is wasted just by having lighting cast in all directions instead of where it is suppose to be used for...
Quote:It's not just the city. Light pollution is a problem in most places. Just over twenty years ago I moved to a village without street lighting. It was one of the reasons I wanted to live there. I was incensed when the parish council decided to install street lamps.
They've always had streetlights where i live (even tho they're kinda ugly i'm
glad they exist). But over the past 20something years a ton more stuff has
been built so now there's lots of stores and stuff with large brightly lit parking
lots not too far away.
Back before allot of that existed you could see plenty of stars at night...
over the years that number has been greatly reduced. Now another thing
is if its cloudy at night (esp in winter with snow on the ground) it is much
brighter than a 'normal' cloudless night...all that light gets reflected
back from the clouds
