'substation' probably isn't the right word...but i don't know what else to call it
If you listen to normal FM radio, you've probably heard stations mention
'HD Radio' (which is not High Def Radio as many falsely call it)...
A station has its normal Analog FM signal that any radio can pick up.
The HD Allows a FM station to broadcast in Digital (Basically MP3/MP4 type
format and quality)...They can have their main channel then multiple
sub-channels -or- HD-x (where x is a number) channels -or- sub-stations
LOL they usually call it HD-1 HD-2 HD-3 ('1' would be the main channel the
others ofcourse being sub-channels... up to 8. Most only have a couple
because each additional means they have to lower the bitrate/quality for
bandwith reasons)
Can be picked up free off the air with a HD Tuner.
And yep it sounds just like a MP3 does
