Thank you so much for this. I really needed this boost today. Candles In The Rain was one album I pretty much wore out. My favourite memory of seeing Melanie play was at the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970. In those days there were no night-time curfews when everything ran late. As Melanie was singing the sun rose. The closest thing to magic I think I have experienced.

I had a huge crush on Melanie - and also on Linda Ronstadt. I still have the Candles in the Rain LP. I love the intro on the LP that isn't on the live version - Little Sisters of the Sun - Lit Candles in the Rain.....
I'll admit I had a crush too. Don't tell anyone, but I am ashamed to admit that "Alexander Beetle" had a strong influence on one of my dreadful teenage attempts at writing songs. One of my female friends always made a point of getting to her shows in time to be able to sit on stage with her. Those were the days before crash barriers and overbearing security.
I have often wondered what the Edwin Hawkins Singers made of the line, "Meher Baba lives again". Maybe that's why it wasn't sung live if the gospel singers were about?
