Thoughts and feelings about "illegals"

In America our "illegal immigration problem" is almost exclusively about Mexicans who cross the border looking for a better life. These "aliens" have it hard because they often risk their lives to cross the border and come here for jobs, ones that no U.S. citizen wants to do. Like working as maids or other demeaning minimum wage jobs. I am a child of immigrants, my mother came here. Legally, while my father used deceptive means to get a work visa and became a citizen by marrying my mother. Now I believe that these Mexicans who fulfill otherwise unwanted jobs should be given a green card or allowed to become a naturalized citizens as our economy needs immigrants to renew its work source
However we cannot take in a third of the population of Mexico. Immigrants need to realize that our streets are not "paved with gold" nor is this the "land of milk and honey" . It's becoming harder and harder for regular citizens like myself to get into colleges and universities, before if you had good grades coupled with good S.A,T. scores you could go to a good college, but now that's no longer so. Colleges are asking for credentials like: volunteer charity work, what job you held down during high school and what musical instruments you play. This is ridiculous. Show me these students with perfect grades and S.A.T. scores, who hold down a job throughout high school, volunteer lots of time for charities, and brilliantly play the piano and violin! Can they ride a unicycle too?
It's also wrong for states like Arizona to ask all people who look Hispanic to show proof of citizenship wherever they go, and have to fear being stopped anywhere because of their dark skin and hair. But the white Arizonans overwhelmingly support this law.
