It's okay, I didn't know what that expression meant when I first heard it, too. "Quitting cold turkey" means quitting something all at once, where as "weening" means quitting in small, gradual steps. So if someone is addicted to caffeine, and normally has, say, 15 cups of coffee a day, if they were to quit cold turkey, they would stop drinking coffee all at once, where as if they were to ween themselves off, they would maybe cut back on their coffee consumption by a cup a week (14 cups a day on the first week, 13 cups a day the second, and so on).
