Well, at least she won't be running for partnership when there was only room for a friendship... Being honest with her was honourable both to her as a friend and to yourself. You owed it to yourself to come out with those words. They are not easy because we've built up almost as much expectation of how people will receive the news as they've built up their conception of who they thought we were... Didn't Proust say: "Notre personnalité sociale est une création de la pensée des autres"? Our social personality is a creation of other people's thoughts.
