Any Welsh-speakers out there ?

Basically I'm just looking for anybody that speaks any Welsh to give me some basic stuff that I can use to impress Martyn (nothing filthy obviously), as his face will tell me whether I've just asked him for a cup of tea or to saddle me up and ride me like a pony .

So ... no matter how basic, if you're up to the challenge (and can tell me how to PRONOUNCE it and/or write it) then that would be GREAT !!

Right the thing is I can speak welsh in convo.. Typing I find REALLY hard lol.

Well, a lot of things depend on where you're from and how you pronounce things.

For example, if someone were to say "Pwy wyt ti?" to me, I would assumed they were asking "Who are you?", rather than "What's your name?"

Pronunciation, however, is a difficult thing to grasp when merely reading the word.

You could try... "Ti'n iawn, Martyn?"

That's a simple, "You okay, Martyn?"

Pronunciation would go something like...

Ti - said exactly like the word Tea in English.

Add the 'n' - which should sound like the 'n' when saying no, rather than how it is pronounced when citing the 'n' in the alphabet.

Iawn - something like.

I - Yes (the sound the Y makes)

a - Aberystwyth

w - wine

n - again, as is pronounced when saying no.

I wouldn’t go as far as to say there were different ‘versions’ of Welsh. I mean, granted there are many colloquial differences, be it in terminology or simple pronunciation. Still, it’s no different with English – with the differences between northern and southern England. The words don’t change; it’s just the words people choose to use.
