Favourite Christmas tracks
#41
well it depends on what kind of christmas you are talking about. what i don't like is the shiny happy jingle bells junk-buying rudolph grinch home alone commercialized christmas, it's all too fake. what i love is the smell of the christmas tree, the annoying relatives with all the nephews and nieces, the visits to my brothers and my parents, the snow, the beautiful traditional christmas carols, christmas caroling, the general atmosphere of peace and joy... all these, but experienced on a very personal level, not part of some marketing scheme to suck people dry ... of their money that is. christmas ties with some very special moments in my life because of this, and the christmas carols especially make me feel so nice... so it's not about the presents. Wink

but one thing i would love for christmas is someone special to share it with Confusedmile:

this romanian carol is especially beautiful. it's called "oh what a joyous day & the departure of the magi" http://download.yousendit.com/699B26E2425D6B97

I have to admit I even enjoy the commercial aspect of the season....

But I DO resent that they now start it in ...JUNE!

But the first coke christmas ads get me excited and the decorations in the stores. I LOVE gift shopping as well. I take loads of time figuring out what fits to each person.

But like much in life, I temper it to fit my needs and don't worry about the rest. There are a ton of aspects of the season I really enjoy, either for what they are or for what they represent or remind me of out of my childhood. The parts I don't like I ignore. Perhaps those are things that others like about the season...

Christmas definately means different things to different people. Being an athiest the religious side holds no meaning for me, but this doesn't negate the feelings of good will and joy and family and gift giving that the season also represents.

I pick and choose and in the end I make the season what I want, not what others think I should have.

I think the songs represent different things to people.. Like theres certain carols which I dont wish to state, which my great nan loved, so in that aspect its something special to me as I know she would of loved to hear it, and just reminds me of her and good times.. Hard to explain..

Paracetamoxyfrusebendroneomycin was a good one too... parody of Supercalafragalisticexpialidocious (Sp?). I also like it for reasons only Shadow might understand if he listened to it!

Yup - I got it straight away, and I'm going to throw my lot in with Wilem, on the basis that I don't think it matters what type of music people come up with - somebody is going to think it's absolutely amazing, just like if you were to attack a canvas with a paint brush, somebody would think it was INCREDIBLY good, even though you yourself might think it was just a pile of old tosh.

I just think the whole point of music has completely been removed like everything else, what for oh money again. I cant agree that music suits everyone, as yes some may like it but its meaningless. Im just going by what every band or solo artist says, must is expression. What does the candy shop express? Oh 12 yo's or younger learning about blowjobs and sex great. What does britney and other singers which children once idolised represent by falling out of clubs with their vag on show? or high on drugs.. Ohh it lets kids think thats good  Wow Im so glad musical 'expression' exists.

I personally believe music is simply about profits these days. NOBODY CARES IF YOU WANT YOUR DICKED LICKED GET OVER IT YOU TARD. All these bands reforming is a pile of crap to. They completely destroy any morals they once tried to portrait.

Ah Salty,,

(setting on my daddy hat).... On this one you are only seeing through a very limited perception. The vast majority of music in the world most of us will NEVER even hear.... new or old. You're taking commercial music, and even a very limited amount of that and painting it all with the same brush.

Plus, what does a performers private life have to do with their music? Brittney walking around with her huchi showing has nothing to do with her music.

AND, a lot of people care who's getting their knob sucked! ;-) Madonna was scandalous when she first started singing. "Like a Virgin" had people screaming mad and talk of banning it was everywhere. Yet she moved an entire generation to open their minds....and maybe their huchi"s! Her behavior changed the world. Like a Prayer!! Good lord, anyone remember the outcry?!

Art is in the eye of the beholder...or the ear.

Madonna didnt talk about dicks being licked.. and in general this thread was on commercial, as not many other types of music would be on youtube Rolleyes

I dont remember as I dont think I was born.. If I was I was very young LOL These days the private lives has everything to do with music.. Kids are a much bigger audience.. and market, so they idolise stars, so when seeing them do these things it does make the kids think hmm thats alright to do that if so and so does.. I admit it is hugely due to the media but still cant stars stop getting so drunk etc?

Like all those kids who didn't act like Elvis, Jimmy Dean, The Beatles, the Stones, Jimmy Hendrix, Janice Jopplin, Boy George.....and a gazillion other artists who made teens change their habits and parents scream and pull their hair out.

I know it seems like none of us have gone through what all of you today are experiencing, but we did. The sixties dwarfed anything Paris and Brittney are doing today.

To be fair I dont think the impact was as big.. well as damaging.. Simply as half the things happening today, the technology wasnt around. Also May I remind you I didnt say nothing like this has ever happened, but I also doubt they sang about 'licking the lolly pop'.
