Expectations
#1
As I examine my life, my personal interests and goals I've realized something. I'm going to disappoint people in the next few years. I have to admit, that kind of bothers me a little. Those people closest to you may try to talk you out of it. Not necessarily because they are mean, but because they have in mind what they think would really work for you in life. For example, everybody has the perfect woman for me which is great and so thoughtful, except I'm really not that into women. I'm not brave enough right now to say "I'm really interested in men right now so I don't think she would work." LOL! Another thing is school. There is a certain program I want from a school that I would like to attend. However tuition is high, but I could get in if I worked at it. I would have to take out loans and they offer partial scholarships. Yet when I tell people this stuff they adamantly suggest another school that is cheaper and it makes since what they are saying. I just do want to do what they suggest because I want what I want. Sometimes I feel so dumb because I don't think "logically". I sometimes think "What if they end up being right and I was wrong and I look stupid when things don't work out. Maybe I just don't see things clear enough. Yeah, she might the perfect one for me, but I'm not interested in her. Sure the other school is cheaper, but I've wanted to attend the school that I like. Anybody experience something like this? How do you cope with this?

AND????

You need to work on your self confidence and stop letting people around you live your life.

Quote:but because they have in mind what they think would really work for you in life.

Once again, your life and not theirs. You are free and fully permitted to make your own mistakes and gain your own life experience. Once again, work on your self confidence.

Then work your arse off if that is your dream for your life. The world is your Oyster, you just have to work at life so you can make of it what you dream.

Not their life to life, this is your life, if that is your dream...if that is your goal...if that is what you want, then go for it and don't let anyone stand in your way. LUCK FAVOURS THE BRAVE, and you make your own luck. BE BRAVE Wink

Quote:"What if they end up being right and I was wrong and I look stupid when things don't work out.

Once again, work on your self confidence. This life is your life...your life to achieve your dreams, your life to make your mistakes and bloody hell, you ARE going to make mistakes...BUT what if listening to everyone is ends up being your biggest mistake?

Big deal if you make a mistake...every single person has made mistakes, you learn from them, pick yourself up, dust yourself off and move on Wink

Be brave
Be honest
Have faith in yourself
Live your life for you.

Mistakes are as valuable as achievements, sometimes more valuable. Your life is for you to live. Listen to advice, take it on board, but ultimately the choices are for you to make
Wink

Be brave.

As I have always told my sons.
Those who mind ,don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Life is difficult enough without , attempting to live up to someones expectations.
I assure you there is about a four million people out there ,that do not live up to yours.

I can relate. I have some minor regrets about things I didn't do and dreams I couldn't accomplish because I was trying to please others.

Ultimately, I have no regrets now because that's the past and we live in the present, but I suggest you follow those dreams and let down your friends and family and their expectations and live for yourself. Just think of how proud of you they will be when your determination overrides your present doubt and all of their doubt combined.

As for coming out...really, the sooner the better. I know how hard it is. A lot of us know, but looking back, every day in the closet was a harder day than most days out of it.

Be brave, be bold and go get those dreams and desires! For YOU!!!

Always remember. Main priority in your life is you. Not others. Your future and life depend on you.

You care about satisfying others. You are scared to disappoint others. But ever thought of satisfying yourself? Ever thought that you have disappointed yourself for not listening to your own desire and wants?

If you are really interested with it, go for it. Even if it means that you have to work part time or apply a loan. As long as the program can benefit your future and you, why not?

You will never know until you've tried it. Life is about taking risk and learn from mistakes.

Okay so other people suggested a different school whilst you prefer another. You can always do a research to compare both schools to see which one if better. Sometimes cheaper doesn't mean better and vice versa. Don't take people's words with one big gulp. You need to remember, this is your life. You own it. You should be the one who sculptures your own life and future

College, if you have done this
Pick the one you want (DU?). Also look at your first few professors. Talk to a few students taking the courses.

Love in your life
I dont think you should skimp here. Dont close your self off from loving. It is up to you when and who you come out to, if at all. The LGBT Center might help (Colfax & Lafayette). gayteenforum.org You really need to come out to yourself. To pretend you are something your not to please others. To ignore your feelings will hinder you in life.
