ignorant assertions about women's rights from an ignorant outside's perspective
#1
Human life that is already here has, by default, infinitely greater value than ‘potential’ human life. Don’t fuck over women [and GIRLS] for infants that will grow up unwanted and in poverty. That is if those infants don’t STARVE TO DEATH. There would be no man on earth to abuse another man or woman if it weren’t for a woman to bear the burden of your development in her body in the first place. If anything, men should bow to the ladies. =P

I don’t deign to truly understand a woman’s perspective. To do so would be the height of arrogance; but I like to think that I have a fleeting sense of justice and (I’d like to think) some semblance of a grip on reality. These things inform my opinion that certain proposed restrictions on abortion (such as the requirement of a waiting period and an invasive procedure that might as well be called legally-sanctioned RAPE and AT BEST not-so-subtle coercion) are fucking wrong. AS fuck. It seems like it it would be the supporting of the “rights” of a mass of cells over the rights of living, thinking, feeling, functioning, potentially contributing human beings who are alive right fucking NOW. And I find no excuse for that.

This is not to say that infants have no rights...I question where the line is drawn, and why we might draw it where ever we do. But I value the people who are already here first. Dissent? Ignorance wants to understand as best it can...really these are just the ramblings of a drunk ignorant asshole...but...

I was born to a woman who should have NEVER had children. I do not believe in legislating what any woman does with her body. If anyone thinks they have the right to tell a woman what she can or cannot do with their own body... I will NEVER vote for them. I am 100% pro choice. It is a cornerstone issue for me.

I'm in two minds (ooops, there goes the libra in me) about abortion. No child should be bought into this world unloved or out of tragedy (Rape, molestation etc), and a woman should be afford the right to choose abortion than put herself and potentially her child at risk.

The right to abort should not be extended to 'cosmetic' reasons.

Ultimately, a woman's body is her own and she has the right to choose (Or legally should have) and on the other side of the coin, doctors should also be extended the same respect in declining to perform the procedure.

You need a licence to drive a car, you need a licence to own a dog...BUT any arsehole can be a parent????

Not everyone is suited to be parent. If they are smart enough to recognize it before its too late they definately should have right to do abortion. Granted she shouldn't have got pregnant in the first place.

The discussion is more about detrimental circumstances than being fit ro be a parents...that part was just my little rant Wink lol

The short & sweet reason for this is they want women punished, especially for having sex (and this includes by some women who love to lord their virginity over other women). Proof of this is how many against abortion are also against birth control and even against HPV vaccines as some said outright they'd literally rather their daughter know they're in danger of contracting a disease that can cause cancer than feeling free to have sex (as if there aren't enough other STDs and that things like rape are still a possibility, but they want to maximize the danger and thus the fear in the name of control and punishment).

What really shows just how insane their hatred of women is like (as just one example) how Georgia wants to force women to carry even stillborn fetuses to term (that is, "protecting" DEAD fetuses, and gets popular support showing it's not the life that's the issue, but the control--and punishment--of women). And I recall a friend from Argentina telling me how her deeply Catholic country likes to not only force women to carry babies conceived in rape BUT RAISE THEM, and this even included when an 11-year-old was raped by her her step father. I've heard of women who were excommunicated for having an abortion but the man (sometimes relative) who raped her (conceiving the baby that was aborted) was not, but I suppose that's parallel to Republicans (and the Christian Right) today who worry about insurance covering birth control but not viagra (and IIRC, viagra actually hurts the chances to conceive).

And back to the USA the Republicans have also been attacking women in other ways as well, not only in attacking birth control and pay but also like when State Sen. Glenn Grothman & State Rep. Donald Pridemore said a battered woman should stay with an abusive husband as it's in the Bible (and this was NOT political suicide as it would've been if there wasn't a war on women going on right now).

And then that supposed passionate love for the unborn evaporates once the baby is born, and are often even opposed to neonatal care, birth control (to prevent unwanted births that would cost even more money and thus make it harder on the unwanted children forced to exist), and are even often against any kind of welfare, including school lunches for impoverished kids (as most babies who would be aborted would be born as if not aborted). The religious orphanages that do exist are often horror stories and devout Christian parents who adopt have been known to kill their children through extreme abuse over petty offenses (an ironic one was a girl murdered by her adoptive Christian mother by a severe beating for lying and then called 911 and LIED about the adopted little girl killing herself) and churches have also run extremely abusive (even tortuous) teen gulags that again belie their love and compassion for children. That is to say their love and compassion only exists where politically convenient.

You know what's funny to me? Republicans and the Christian Right like to say groups like the Taliban hate us for our freedoms, yet also claim they love America as they attack many of those same freedoms for pretty much the same reason fundie Muslim extremist groups do.

Ah well, this YT gives some well-deserved mockery of women who still support the Republican Party:

And for those outside the USA who thinks this is too silly, here's why it actually hits pretty close to home:

men should have no say in the ladies issues; abortion, birth control, etc.

I expect to see more of this debate in the coming months. We've had the gay marriage issue paraded around by American politicians, so I'm waiting on the abortion debate to start. What I hate about it is that you get no real substance in most cases. They use emotional issues as a smokescreen to get people to look away from their real agenda or lack thereof. And if they can swing a few voters their way in the process, so much the better. But the usual pattern is that they will be very careful not to promise any concrete actions, so as not to completely alienate the opposing side.

As for where I stand on it, rather than being a dick and saying that "my position is evolving" I'll say that I really wish government didn't have to take a position on abortion, but since they do then I'm once again in favor of them not taking away any freedoms. It's a damn personal matter and should be decided by the individuals involved, without any outside pressures.

The more I read the more I see how fucked up this all is...and I'm actually sober now, so it's legit, heh.

And that video was funny and spot on, Pix.

Amen to that , not to long ago I, was driving to work up Albert street , when this two year old child ran in front of my car, it shook me to my core.

I got out of the car and picked him up , asked him where mummy is.
He pointed to a house , that looked so run down , I walked over and the smell of dope was unbelievably strong , I made a quick decision to call the police and kept the child with me till they arrived.

They brought a social worker with them, as I was going back to the car , I heard her scream at the toddler" I should have aborted you you little retard."
