Do I ask for too much?

You are definitely not asking too much. I want the same thing. But, no one who live around me is gay (or atleast not out of the closet) and I really want a gay friend to talk to. It's not the same with a heterosexual friend, they are different, they have it easier in society. I want to have a gay friend I can talk to about struggles as an LGBT teen in this harsh society and not some 60 year old perv looking to cyber A REAL PERSON. :\

I think gay straight or bi, we are all looking for someone that truly understands us.
You can have a pn army of best friends but that still doesn't mean that they will satisfy your loneliness.

Like othe Elle have suggested, sometimes you only need a really understanding straight friend for the time being,
