What started the trend of putting the same-sex marriage bans on ballots was a Republican strategy to motivate voters, in that you could drive people more likely to vote for Republicans to the polls on an election day if there were also secondary issues they might care about. Dems do this too with some issues, but they haven't tried to capitalize on same-sex marriage to support their candidates.

However, I think there have been votes for legalization at the level of state legislatures in Vermont, New Jersey, and New York if I remember correctly.,

Ah yes...this looks like the proper one to use.....

Thrice-be damned religious freaks sending humanity's progression back 100 years with every breath they draw! I loathe every one of them.

(yes I know my response has no logical merit to back it up...but damn does it feel good to vent it)
