What is Humanism?

I am now dead confused.. By what i can gather i would have a stab at it questioning both parts of something not only the good but also the bad am i correct?

In general humanism is a belief that moral good or moral principles can be derived entirely from human experience without the external authority of a deity (though not necessarily in opposition to). This is where the academic field of the "humanities" gets its name. Humanist can be religious or not, it depends on their interpretation of humanism.
