Today I noticed that there is a Yellow Jacket nest in my yard. I have a huge deck, and in the middle of it there's a hole cut where a decorative ornamental fir is growing, 6-7' tall. They're in/under the fir, under ground.

Throughout the day I watched the drones flying in and out, like Borg cubes returning to the unicomplex.

As much as I hated to (?) I waited until it got dark and flooded the hole with Raid, and then plugged the hole with a rock. There were so many I could hear them buzzing from a distance underground.

It was scary and fascinating.

Yesterday was the first time a bug bit me and I was actually aware that I was being bitten by a bug while it happened. And it stung like holy hell. I don't know if this bug always stings this badly when it bites you or if it was just worse because I was aware of it and experienced placebo pain I wouldn't have had if I'd never noticed it was biting me.

I friggin hate bugs.

I just checked my "swarm". I can still hear them buzzing. I'm a little worried their nest is bigger than anticipated and that I just pissed them off.

Ntabcb.... I have no idea. I slapped at it until it disappeared, but it had already bitten.

It wasn't my first bite, just the first time that I was actually aware of being bitten as it happened.
