Am I choosy or mind controlled?
#1
I just got back from the store and one of the things I got was Jif peanut butter, presumably because it was on sale. But for about a minute I was trying to choose between that or an even bigger jar that was only slightly more expensive, and I THINK I chose the Jif because I never tried the other one (so had no idea of its taste or texture) and I didn't like that the other one was in a glass jar while Jif was in plastic. And as I thought about it I heard singing in my head out of nowhere going, "Moms like you choose Jif. Choose Jif." And as I wondered where the hell that came from I heard a woman's voice in my head going, "Choosy moms choose Jif." I figured it must've been an ad I heard somewhere before, but as I couldn't remember I just grabbed the Jif and kept going.

Then on the way home I remembered that it was a commercial back in the 90s (these days it's more "moms & dads" rather than just moms) and I saw it at least a couple of times. I didn't watch much TV at all back then so I couldn't have seen it a lot. I suppose it says something about the power of advertising when over a decade later it stuck with me. For those curious (and perhaps very brave):

But surely that was a coincidence and my choice of Jif was rational of my own free will...at least that's what I keep telling myself.

Well, if it wasn't , just go try the cheaper, generic peanut butter. There is a taste difference, Jiff does taste better. Smile

You are not being too choosy, at times it's better the devil you know.

I won't buy the stores own peanut butter , they are either to dry or too oily.
I buy the Kraft brand, it's about the only one my Terry will eat.

Terry grew up in Albany Georgia and considering we do not have the same brands here , he settled on Kraft .

Once my southern gentleman sets his mind to something , he will reject everything else , besides it's a case of quality over quantity.

LOL Pix, you seems to be an ideal customer.

It's interesting how taste differs. Hardly anyone would buy peanut butter in my country. We simply don't like it at all.

I don't know if you are old enough to remember back in the 70s there was a huge controversy about the subliminal messages in advertising.....it definitely exists....

I know for me...I have to have Best Foods Mayo and even when it is in a jar called Hellmans which is the EXACT SAME MAYO...it just has a different name in other parts of the US...I won't touch it. Even when I KNOW it is the same thing.

Funny about Jif...Their slogan "choosy moms" backfires with me....

I go for Skippy Extra Crunch but one peanut butter jar lasts me a year or more and I have to throw the rest away anyway....
