I said above that Austin is strangely liberal despite that conservatives rule the state (TX) from there, and now I just came across this:

Quote:But all the secession talk has intrigued liberals as well. Caleb M. of Austin started his own petition on the White House Web site. He asked the federal government to allow Austin to withdraw from Texas and remain part of the United States, “in the event that Texas is successful in the current bid to secede.” It had more than 8,000 signatures as of Friday.
What a tangled web this is turning out to be.
And if the state has to move their capitol then they might have to choose carefully so as to not offend either West or East Texas. And while Dallas seems a likely place for a new capital (as it's not only a major metropolis I believe it's the most famous city in the state with even a TV show named for it, IIRC) but not only is that firmly in East Texas (and thus West Texans might take offense, especially when San Antonio has the Alamo, which is perhaps the most revered sign of Texas independence, and so that should make them the new capitol, at least I'm sure plenty would say that), but that would likely get Houston all riled up (heck, even Ft. Worth might be offended).
